Help Building a Monk/Ranger Build - Newbie
Hi,
I bought GW a few days and I've enjoyed it thus far. At the moment, I am a Level 13 Monk/Ranger. I'm at a loss at how to continue building my character. Most of my points are in Smite, Heal, and Marksmanship, the latter two each having 8 levels of points. I have about 4 in smite and w/e's left in divine favor (not much).
How do I continue building this character? Should concentrate more on being a healer or tank? In the groups I've been in I've been asked to do both - it's literally 50/50.
I know I have a very unique build, I didn't realize that until I read a few guides - but I am thoroughly enjoying it.
Thanks ahead of time for anyone who helps

You really might as well just go Ranger primary. You may be getting by in the early zones but when things get rough later on, people won't want a marksmanship monk.

well I can always shift around my points. That's what I've been doing when people ask me to play healer or ask me to play tank

Mo/Rs are used mostly for running. Do what you enjoy the most, but I would recommend focusing on protection prayers because it will make you a better monk in the long term. Also you could consider changing secondary profession to E or Me for energy management skills when you have a chance. If you meet other Mo/Rs you could try this eventually

Become a bonder with life bond only and use symbiosis a beastmaster spirit or you can use quicken zypher. This will help your skill recharge faster but the beastmaster is the best one.Nice vid on the match a little to big for my screen to bad it is not on youtube.

I have game of the year prophecies, that's all.
I don't plan on buying the other ones for a little while...
Here's the thing, I enjoy being a tank a bit more then a healer but I want to be needed in groups.
I just wanna make the best use of my ranger half... heh

Well if u do enjoy the tanking bit more, then the warrior class might sth to look into rather than the monk. Once u hit places like the desert and beyond ppl will expect u to be a full healer/prot monk, which u might not enjoy as much. But for nearly every team a monk plays a vital role and is far more important than a tank.
a bit of topic, that Mo/R spike is really cool i watched the whole thing and i never imagined to see such a team setup^^

alright, well I'll check out the monk/ranger spike thing. It seems that the alst 5 quests/missions i've been on the last couple hours have required me to be a healer, and it's ok heh. I'll concentrate on that. Maybe, I'll do the quest to change myself to Mesmer or elementalist to make better use of myself.

Once you get farther in the game you will not be able to tank, that is a warriors job and a monk has fairly weak armor. Look through the fourums a bit for good secondary options and builds.

ok let me help u a bit bring along serpents quickness (33% faster recharge for blessed signet) and retribution put that on all ur teammates and blessed sig for energy manegement then u need SoJ (Signet) and Bane Signet and watchfull healing helps also (only 7 sec recharge) then u might want to bring reversal of damage and at last bring rebirth (Atributes : 12 in Divine (11+1) 14 in smiting (11+3 thats 1 major rune + headpiece) then get 8 in wildernis survival then u got 3 rune spots left put 2 vitea and 1 sup vigor on them and use the blessed insignia (+10AL bonus while enchanted)
I Hope this helps
Have Fun and GL

Monk/Rangers can be fairly good in later areas as well, if you use a stance or two like dryder's defenses and storm chaser. They allow you to block attacks if you're out of position and catch enemy fire or simply run away and return for a second round after being healed up.

Just on a side note the Mo/R spike vid is a PvP build, and is probably not something u could set up for a mission. If u really DO like tanking as a monk u might wanna look into the 55HP monk and u can tank in the underworld with an SS necro as dmg dealer.

Ok, sorry for the long response time, been a busy with real life and with the game. Last night, I ascended, reached level 20, and changed my second profession to Mesmer...I felt like this was a good choice. I realized over the last few days that party's prefer me as a full healer, as apposed to a protection or tanking monk
I am going to do the 2 15pt attribute point quests and become a Healing/Divine Favor/Inspiration Magic Mo/Me. I'll be using Inspiration Magic for Energy Drains and Taps - Taking energy from foe and turning it into energy and HP for myself and casting degen on foe's energy.
I think this is a good idea, any input?

I`d suggest you just use a monk elite (like WoH or something) for healing. Energy Drain is ok...but stuff like WoH is better suited for your job.

Energy Tap has a long casting time and Energy Drain is not that good anymore.
Power Drain and Channeling are good energy management skills for Mo/Me. While Holy Veil is a better hex removal skill, you can take Inspired Hex to save some energy.

Hmm ok, well that kinda makes me lose a bit of interest in it :-\
I'm going to do the warriors quest and play around with a Mo/W and with the Mo/Me and see what I enjoy the most.
